IIT Delhi students share their period stories with everteen

everteen joined students at IIT Delhi’s Rendezvous 2026 for open conversations about periods, first-period experiences, and the support that makes a difference. One of North India’s largest college cultural festivals, the event featured concerts, competitions, workshops and celebrity nights.

First-period memories, self-care, and supportive friendships

Several students at IIT Delhi shared their period stories with everteen.

Students recalled feeling confused, embarrassed, or worried during their first period. Others remembered friends and family stepping in when they needed help. Their stories ranged from lighthearted misunderstandings to thoughtful acts of support.

One of the students chuckled when she remembered having her first period in seventh grade at school. She said the funny part was that she asked her younger brother if he too was experiencing anything similar, because she thought he might have faced the same issue because they lived together!

Another one said that she had seen reels and shorts on how boyfriends pamper their girlfriends during periods, but since she was single, she just started pampering herself. She later found supportive friends who helped her feel more comfortable about her periods. Over time, she said, she learned to love her periods.

One of them pleaded, “Inn ladko ko koi knowledge dedo periods ki” (Someone please teach these boys about periods!). She said when she asked her male friends what periods are, they said that there is bleeding and it was a training for pregnancy! That response highlighted a common misconception and a need for better period education. Menstruation is the shedding of the uterine lining; it is not 'training for pregnancy.'

In everteen Menstrual Hygiene Survey 2024, 77.7% of male respondents reported having done little to no research about menstruation to better understand their partner’s experience during periods.

Normalizing Period Conversations

As a brand committed to sharing accurate information about menstruation, normalizing period conversations and providing a better menstrual experience to women, we at everteen were particularly inspired by a girl who said she educated her younger brother about periods and cramps and told him to take care of his female friends during that phase, despite coming from a family where such discussions with boys are considered taboo.
